Heartless thief strikes at Melbourne funeral: Manhunt underway after mourner’s purse stolen in brazen act

A manhunt has been launched to track down a heartless thief who stole a mourner's bag at a funeral in Melbourne.

The shocking act happened as the procession of mourners walked out of a funeral home in the city's Glen Waverley at around 3.15pm on November 29.

Police released CCTV footage showing the man wearing a black face mask walking into the empty chapel.

He noticed an unattended handbag on a row of seats closest to the exit, rifled through it and pulled out a lady's purse, which he placed under his denim jacket.

He wandered through the chapel to check for other unattended property and then fled the scene.

Police have released images and CCTV footage of a man they say can assist their investigation as part of a public appeal.

He is described as being between 25 and 35 years old, of Asian appearance and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a blue denim jacket, light gray jeans and white shoes.
