Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds mode is getting a team vs team mode
Hearthstone Battlefieldsthe auto-battler spin-off of Blizzard’s card game Hearthstone is getting its own spin-off, with a new team-based mode where you can group up with your friends and play against opponents.
The new mode was announced on stage at Blizzcon 2024 by lead director Cora Georgiou, and the new mode will be available to try at Blizzcon 2023, ahead of a planned release for the mode in early 2024.
Hearthstone First announced at Blizzcon 2019, Battlegrounds tapped into the autobattler trend. However, it put a unique card-based spin on the genre, setting it apart from the many other autobattlers that attempted to recreate the magic of Dota auto chess. It was quite successful and it’s a big part of it now Hearthstone that has gained many fans.
However, the exciting card-based autobattler isn’t done yet. The new cooperative Duos mode looks set to inspire a whole new wave of fans. In this upcoming mode, players can team up with a friend and battle against other pairs. This battle features special mechanics only available to Duos, such as team battles, passing cards to each other, and a shared health pool. There will also be new heroes and minions that emphasize teamwork mechanics and features.
If you’re worried about not having anyone to play with, you’ll be happy to know that there is a solution. “Catch-up packs” are also being introduced to give new players and those who haven’t participated in a while access to a wide range of cards. Everyone will get one of these packs for free, and some will also be on pre-order for the next expansion. While it’s not clear how many cards you’ll get in a pack, ranging from 5 to 50, the number will change based on how many standard cards you already have.
