A heartbroken Brooke Warne opens up about how hard it was to spend her first Christmas and New Years without her father Shane
The daughter of the late great Shane Warne shared a touching video on social media with family followers about how hard it was to get through Christmas and New Years without her father, the cricket star.
Warne, 52, tragically died of a heart attack in March last year while on holiday in Thailand, sending the cricket world into mourning.
His daughter Brooke Warne, 24, recently took time off social media to deal with her grief. However, she recently returned to TikTok to post a heartbreaking video.
“Christmas Eve wasn’t the same, we usually spend Christmas Eve with dad this year,” she said.
‘Waking up with him on Christmas Day and you know, all of that and Boxing Day…usually we’d go to cricket, well he was trying to talk us into going to cricket.’
“It’s been really strange without him by our side, because this is when he was coming back from work, doing the Dunhill [golf tournament]being in the UK, he’s always here during the summer,’ he said.
“He’s always here to comment on cricket, he’s always here to take us around an ice lolly, you know, doing little daddy things in the summer, coming to the beach with us… all those things he loved to do.”
Brooke thanked supporters for rallying behind the push to honor Warne at the Boxing Day Test by wearing his iconic floppy hat and zinc cream, sharing that it was bittersweet because it also reminded the family of all the good times.
“The tributes that everyone did on Boxing Day was the Shane Warne test, and everyone in their floppy hats and I think he would be just as incredibly moved as we were,” he said.
“But it was also very difficult, as you know, it was a constant reminder that he was not here.

Brooke was always close to her famous cricketer father and was devastated by his sudden death while on vacation in Thailand.
‘Because now things are starting to get real, he’s not here and he’s not coming back from his vacation.
“And I think in the last two weeks, I’ve really started to sink in, and the emotions have been very real.”
Brooke’s video resulted in a long list of supportive messages from Warne family supporters.

Former Australian goalkeeper and Shane Warne teammate Adam Gilchrist spoke to his son Jackson Warne during a break in the Boxing Day Test last month.
You are such a beautiful girl Brooke. He would be so proud of you. I send you all the love in the world,” replied a follower.
I think about you very often. I’ve been through it, I lost my dad a few days before Christmas and Christmas was one of his favorite things,” added another.
‘What a beautiful and strong young lady you are, I’m sure your father is looking at you with incredible pride. You have this girl xxx’, replied another.
‘You beautiful girl, you are doing your father proud. Much love, it’s hard to cry especially when it’s so public. All of Australia misses him and is behind you,” said another.
