Dramatic footage shows two people crawling along the top of New York City’s Williamsburg Bridge as police hunt for a suspect trapped 140 feet above the East River.

The incident on Friday morning forced the busy stretch to be shut down while police tried to bring the person down.

Video shows stunned onlookers as two people sneak dangerously along the edge of the bridge.

The standoff finally came to an end after several hours, with the suspect safely taken down and taken into custody.

The bridge reopened to the public after 10 a.m., Mayor Eric Adams confirmed.

The closure led to travel chaos with trains and traffic coming to a standstill in both directions.

Travel has since resumed, but the public is still being warned of “remaining delays” in the area by the city’s emergency notification system.

NYCT Subway released a statement advising travelers that said: “J/M trains are operating with severe delays in both directions.

“The last stop of some 57 St-bound M trains will be Myrtle Av, which will provide service to Metropolitan Ave. NYPD has concluded their investigation into the Williamsburg Bridge.”

There remains a heavy police presence in the area, with reports of helicopters flying overhead.

Photos also show traffic backed up at the entrance to the bridge, which connects Manhattan’s Lower East Side at Delancey Street with Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood.

The incident comes just a month after the NYPD was filmed making a dramatic rescue of a man who was in danger of jumping from the same spot.

Bodycam footage showed the nerve-wracking moment an officer climbed the bridge in pouring rain to reach a distraught man who was threatening to jump.

The rescue took place just after 5pm on September 24, in the wake of Storm Ophelia.

In 2018, the NYPD received a similar call and spoke with a man from the bridge for nearly an hour and a half.

Last week, harrowing images emerged of two police officers trying to lure a man from the FDR underpass.

Officers Carl Fayette and Eleodoro Mata were hailed as heroes for saving the citizen’s life.
