The heartbreaking moment a one-year-old Guatemalan boy was dumped at the US border by a ‘coyote’ human smuggler has been caught on camera.

The smuggler simply left the boy along the Colorado River to fend for himself after crossing the border from Mexico earlier this week.

Surveillance cameras located directly along the Arizona-Mexico border see the smuggler climbing out of the water and placing the boy on a path between two sections of the border, where he then cruelly abandons him.

The smuggler then swims across the border into Mexico, leaving the boy alone.

The abandoned youth seems utterly bewildered and begins walking only moments later, just a few feet from the water.

Incredibly, an eagle-eyed Border Patrol agent spotted the boy through the fence and sped up in his patrol SUV to his aid, leading him to his unit.

US Border Patrol Chief Raúl Ortiz tweeted a video of the incident saying: “Tragedy averted!”

‘A one-year-old Guatemalan boy was abandoned along the Colorado River Monday afternoon by a smuggler who took him across the border and then left him alone at the water’s edge. Thanks to our agent’s quick response. …’, wrote Ortiz.

Ortiz then shared a photo of the border agent holding the child: “Photo of the child being held safe with an agent.”
