- Jess Fox was eliminated in Paris by her sister Noemie
- Brothers and sisters participated in the kayak cross race
- Jess was denied the chance of a triple gold medal in France
Jessica Fox’s fight for a historic third Olympic medal in Paris is over after her sister Noemie edged out the superstar during their kayak cross round.
After winning the C1 and K1 titles, Fox attempted a ‘golden triple’ with the new Olympic event added to the programme in Paris.
But her plans were ruined on Sunday afternoon when a costly mistake at the gate left her out of the top two and out of the quarterfinals, finishing last.
The Fox siblings were placed in the same heat of four paddlers, against experienced Spanish three-time Olympic medalist Maialen Chourraut and Dutch paddler Martina Wegman.
27-year-old Noemie started well and, together with her sister at the back of the field, managed to increase the lead.
Jessica passed Wegman, but when she tried to climb past Chourraut, she missed a gate and had to paddle back, taking her out of the race.
After crossing the border, the younger Fox waited for her older sister and hugged her in heartwarming scenes.
Earlier, Tim Anderson won his heat and qualified for the quarterfinals in the men’s event. Tristan Carter also advanced after finishing second.
