Heart-stopping moment woman pushing a pram narrowly avoided getting run over by driver during high-speed police chase

Heartbreaking footage shows the moment a woman narrowly pushes a pram and avoids being run over by a reckless driver during a high-speed police chase.

Jack Williamson, 29, led officers on the dangerous chase around Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, on September 14, reaching speeds of 75mph in a 30mph zone.

A court heard the boy drove on the wrong side of the road, climbed a curb to overtake other road users and ran red lights in an attempt to avoid.

Police dashcam video shows a woman with a stroller was struck just feet away as Williamson drove through a pedestrian area.

She was quickly forced out of the way as the disqualified driver sped through a red light in the city centre.

Williamson later abandoned his vehicle in a pub car park and then fled into nearby woodland where he hid in a roadside bush.

However, he was spotted by police dog Seth and his handler, who were able to trace Williamson’s scent from the driver’s seat to his nearby hideout.

Williamson, a prohibited driver previously in jail for a similar offense, turned himself in to officers and was arrested at the scene.

He made no comment in the interview but later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Williamson, from Huthwaite, Notts., was sentenced to 14 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

Detective Sergeant Clint Gloyn, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: ‘This was disgusting and reckless driving which endangered other road users and pedestrians.

However, Williamson was tracked down by police dog Seth (pictured) and his handler, who were able to trace the criminal’s scent from the driver’s seat to his nearby hideout.

‘At one point a woman pushing a pram was forced to take evasive action as Williamson drove through a pedestrian area.

“He then hid from our officers and may have remained undiscovered without the intervention of Seth, who was able to track Williamson’s scent from the car to his hiding place.

‘Using additional CCTV footage, we were also able to prove that Williamson had exited the driver’s seat before fleeing the scene.

“All in all, he had little choice but to plead guilty and will now spend more time behind bars as a result.”
