Heart-stopping moment ute flips through the air after losing control on a Queensland highway

Frightening footage captured the moment a ute lost control before flying into the air on a major highway.

The silver Mitsubishi Triton was traveling along the D'Aguilar Highway, northwest of Brisbane, on New Year's Day.

Dashcam footage of a car towing a caravan showed the car overtaking the vehicle before narrowly missing an oncoming car.

The Triton appeared to lose control as the vehicle swerved before spinning over the embankment on the side of the road.

A silver Mitsubishi Triton was seen overtaking a car towing a caravan in rainy conditions on the D'Aguilar Highway, northwest of Brisbane, Queensland, on New Year's Day.

The Mitsubishi's left rear tire struck some water on the road and the vehicle swerved and turned left across both lanes onto the side embankment.

The ute then flipped several times but miraculously landed upright, allowing the driver to walk away.

The images were shared on Facebook with the caption: 'Rolling in 2024'.

Social media users were left in disbelief as several people targeted the driver.

'Ride according to the conditions, there is a solid line for a reason. So inconsiderate, endangering the lives of others!' wrote one.

'If the lines are solid, it's for a reason. “That was almost a head-on collision just before the drift in Tokyo on wet surfaces,” said another.

'Solid line, blind bend, wet road surface. Good thing he's off the road for a while,” a third wrote.

Others argued that the dangerous maneuver was not worth the risk.

“Damn, those ten seconds they would have saved by overtaking are so worth it,” one person wrote.

“Deserves a Darwin award…overtaking on a solid line, on wet surfaces, in a bend, at high speed, with incoming traffic,” said another.

Most agreed that the accident could have been avoided if the driver had been more patient.

“What an impatient tool who will endanger the lives of others just to get 30 seconds of extra time,” one person said.

“Trying to get to your destination 1 minute faster or not at all,” wrote another.

Many said they were glad the driver and other people on the road were safe.

'Well, I hope he's learned his lesson. Luckily he is doing well,” one person wrote.

Queensland Police are investigating the incident.
