‘He thought he was Mourinho-esque… he deserves everything he gets’: Chris Sutton fires brutal parting shot at sacked Rangers boss Michael Beale in It’s All Kicking Off – after calling him ‘Chelsea’s worst player ever’

Mail Sport columnist Chris Sutton believes Michael Beale’s sacking from Rangers was karma and he is talking too much in a lengthy rant.

Beale was sacked at Ibrox on Sunday after their poor start to the season.

Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen, their third in just seven league games, was greeted with boos from the home fans. Beale’s popularity was at an all-time low before he was given his marching orders the next day.

During his time in Glasgow, Beale targeted Celtic legend Sutton, labeling him ‘Chelsea’s worst ever player’ after an ill-fated season with the Blues in 1999-2000, before joining the Bhoys for a trophy-laden spell of six years. in the club.

And looking back on Beale’s disappointing managerial spell at Rangers, Sutton didn’t hold back Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast.

“I think he must have some talent as a coach, but I think this is a life lesson for him,” he said. ‘He should have learned lessons from the whole city from Ange Postecoglou – who he actually called ‘lucky Ange’.

“Celtic will feel like they were lucky that Michael Beale was at Rangers because recently when he was in charge they absolutely wiped the floor with Rangers. I really think that was the end for him when they lost to Aberdeen.

‘He was a bit like a London cockney car salesman who goes there and all this talk promises a Ferrari, but then you get a sputtering three-wheeler.

He ended up talking too much. The main currency in Glasgow is winning. The Glasgow goldfish bowl swallowed him up. He went in with optimism and tried to appease the Rangers fans with all the talk about culture.

‘I didn’t like the way he seemingly took a lot of credit for Rangers’ league title success when he was Steven Gerrard’s assistant manager. He thought he was the mastermind behind the operation and this Mourinho-like figure above it. Last season he got away with it because it wasn’t his team.

“You need more than seven games to judge players fairly against him, but the fact the hierarchy did that tells you they didn’t trust him.”
