Hayes Creek crash: Three people killed as two cars collide in the Northern Territory

Three people have died in a two-car crash in the Northern Territory.

The two vehicles collided on the Stuart Highway near Hayes Creek, south of Darwin, around 12.30pm on Friday.

The three people died on the spot. The police speak of a ‘significant loss of life’.

“Both lanes of the Stuart Hwy are expected to remain closed until late tonight,” a Northern Territory Police spokesperson said.

‘Motorists are advised to avoid the area.’

Detective Inspector Richard Musgrave said the crash “will have a devastating impact on the families involved and on our emergency services.”

‘We are still in the early stages of the investigation and the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are unknown.

‘As more information becomes available, it will be released.’
