A popular Aussie craft beer brand has gone bankrupt after a decade.
Hawkers Beer, based in Melbourne’s Reservoir, announced on Monday that it had gone into voluntary administration.
Brewery founder Mazen Hajjar cited the increased operational costs not just for Hawkers, but for the entire Australian craft beer industry.
The brewery has grown to become one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of craft beers in Melbourne.

Mr Hajjar said the brewery was unable to solve numerous problems plaguing the sector.
“Post-Covid has been a challenging period with larger players increasingly restricting access to taps and shelf space,” he said.
‘This is accompanied by broader economic pressures, including higher input costs and taxes.
‘However, we are confident that the restructuring will leave the company in a stronger position to meet these challenges in the future.’
The company’s administrators, DBA Advisory, said the decision had been made ‘to help facilitate a financial restructuring of the company’.
“DBA Advisory supports the continuation of Hawkers’ operations, so employees and customers should treat it as business as usual,” they said in a statement to NCA Newswire.
‘This appointment will have no impact on ongoing production and distribution.’
