Hawk Tuah: Footy fans go wild after hilarious sign is revealed at New Zealand Warriors match: ‘Genius’

  • ‘Hawk Tuah’ has reached New Zealand
  • A footy fan held a sign referring to the viral clip
  • The witty sign was praised by fans on social media

Football fans greeted the banner held aloft by a New Zealand Warriors supporter during his team’s victory over Brisbane Broncos on Saturday.

The anonymous football fan referred to the ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl, an internet sensation from the United States, in a witty sign he first used during the 32-18 victory in Auckland.

The ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl, whose name is Hailey Welch, has become very famous in the past week thanks to a video on social media in which she refers to a sexual act.

In the original clip, Welch was interviewed on the street in Nashville, where she was asked how she gets over a breakup.

“The only way to get over one is to get under the other,” she joked.

The interviewer then asked about Welch, “one move in bed that drives a man crazy every time.”

Welch’s NSFW response almost immediately caused social media to lose its collective mind.

She used the term “Hawk Tuah” to describe spitting as part of a sexual act.

And to show that the clip has reached every corner of the planet, one quick-thinking footy fan held up a sign that read: ‘Hawk Tu-ivasa sidestep that thang’.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is of course the speedy Warriors fullback known for his sidestep.

“The Wahs crowd has an incredibly strong sign game,” said one fan on X. “Every game they come up with an absolute banger!”

Another added: ‘A new standard has been set. Absolute elite level.’

A third fan said: ‘Outstanding’ while the original poster described the sign as: ‘Genius.

But Warriors coach Andrew Webster was critical of his team’s decision-making but was pleased with the way they turned around the previous week’s performance.

“Sometimes we made it harder for ourselves,” he said

‘They still have that feeling of shame from last week.

“They set up the week incredibly, the way we trained. And then suddenly you go from showing up completely exhausted to confident. Proud of them.’

Despite the Warriors’ dominance, they only led by 10 points at halftime, giving their opponents a chance to get back into the game.

“Starting 16-6, I think, was a huge achievement by our guys considering the amount of possession the Warriors had,” said Broncos coach Kevin Walters.

“I’m really proud of our guys and their effort. We’ve definitely been in the game for a long time.

“We just need to improve our skills or our discipline and then we’ll be back on track.”
