Have the Clooneys left their £10 million mansion on the banks of the Thames? Local residents reveal that Hollywood’s favorite power couple has not lived in the nine-bedroom home for at least two years

Hollywood’s favorite power couple George and Amal Clooney have spent years – and many millions – building a ‘nice little world’ on one of the most idyllic stretches of the River Thames.
The couple bought their heritage-listed mansion on a five-acre island near Sonning, Berkshire, for a reported £10 million in September 2014, days before their wedding at Venice’s Aman Canal Grande hotel.
After an extensive 18-month refurbishment costing several million pounds, the ivy-clad nine-bedroom country house, protected from prying eyes by a row of willows, today boasts a large swimming pool and pool house, large terrace, a boathouse, an astroturf tennis court and a 12-seat movie theater.
But despite the expense they’ve spent on the estate, the village’s locals say the Clooneys have set the bar high and are on their way to a sunnier climate.
Sources told The Mail on Sunday that George, 62, and his wife Amal, 45, who were once regulars at Sonning’s local pubs and restaurants, have not lived in the residence for at least two years.
George and Amal moved to Sonning after completing their renovations about a year before the birth of their twins, Ella and Alexander, in June 2017

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘They used to be a lot more frequent, but as far as I know they haven’t been seen in over two years.
“It’s pretty common knowledge that they don’t live here anymore, at least not permanently. They’re never here.’

George quickly waxed lyrical about the charms of the area, which is also home to Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page.
He said of the half-timbered Bull Inn: ‘There’s a great pub we’re going to. It’s fantastic and we drink all kinds of pints and stuff.’
He also told the BBC’s The One Show: ‘There’s a wonderful little restaurant called The French Horn just down the road that we walk to.
“We have a really nice little world there, which is very private and very special, and the people are really nice, so I love it.”
A source close to the family said the couple is now splitting their time between Italy and the US.
They are believed to be most often located in Villa Oleandra, an 18th-century stack on the shores of Lake Como.
Human rights lawyer Amal grew up just 20 miles from Sonning in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, where her mother Baria Alamuddin still lives.
