Terrifying surveillance video shows a 13-year-old girl dragging a trash can into the driveway of her home moments before she was shot in the neck.
Police arrived on the scene and found the teen at the front door bleeding from a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by her own mother.
When police asked what happened, they said the still-faithful daughter tried to protect her mother by telling her that a homeless man had shot her.
The shooting happened Monday at the family home, near the Seat Pleasant Police Department in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
The teen’s mother, Talecka Brown, 32, who goes by the name Talecka Crystal on Facebook, was promptly arrested for attempted first-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Despite the girl telling how a homeless man had shot her after she broke in, police rejected the tall tale, after which the girl told authorities that her mother had told her to outright lie to police.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and determined that no one else entered or left the house between the time the girl walked home from school, pulled the trash can from the curb, walked into the house and was shot.
The girl said she and her mother had been arguing when the situation suddenly became physical.
Just as the teen walked down the stairs, she told police how she saw her mother holding a gun, which she then fired, causing her to storm down the stairs.
Police say the teen was the last person to enter the family home before the shooting and that no other party besides the girl’s mother was involved.

Police searched the home and found a loaded black Glock pistol.
Charging documents say investigators could also smell the odor of a discharged firearm in the home.
They also show how Brown couldn’t even get her own story straight as she gave conflicting statements during an interview with police before eventually admitting that she was the only one home with her daughter at the time of the shooting.
When Brown was asked if there was a gun at home, she explained that there was one in the safe, but it was unregistered and not hers.
“It is always tragic when violence occurs in our community, but it is heartbreaking when the perpetrator has to be your protector,” Seat Pleasant’s acting police chief said in a statement.
The girl, seen on the left, is now recovering from her injuries in intensive care, but is likely to require more surgeries as her condition stabilizes and improves.

“While no one imagines that a mother would shoot their own daughter, these incidents do happen,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy added.
“We know it will take some time for her to recover from her physical injuries, but her emotional injuries – they could last a lifetimeBraveboy said.

The girl is now recovering from her injuries in intensive care, but it is likely she will require more surgeries as her condition stabilizes and improves. Doctors are happy she can still walk, given where the bullet hit.
According to the accusation, the victim specifically had a “single defect on the posterior portion of her neck at the ‘C-Spine’ region, where a bullet fragment was observed in her shoulder area, and another portion was lodged near her belly’.

“I made dinner plus crab and shrimp salads. Lai’s best friend stayed overnight. I celebrated getting my new job! It was a time. Happy Monday, I hope everyone is having a blessed week,” she wrote.
A friend commented: ‘Glad you had a great day. Good things come to those who wait, I love you all.”
During a trial, the prosecution heard how Brown had left a voicemail on the father’s phone in an attempt to influence their daughter.
Brown said the case would be “off the table” if their daughter did not appear in court, the newspaper reported NBC News.
According to the victim’s father, Brown didn’t even dare to ask how her daughter was doing.
‘Attempted premeditated murder? Come on, you know it’s not me,” Brown also said in the voicemail, according to prosecutors.
‘It’s her mother, she’s going to listen to her mother. That is our concern,” Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Sowls said. “We don’t want her to get infected in any way from the pressure.”
Brown has not yet entered a plea but is due back in court on October 25.
