Haunting final words children told their father before he was killed in a horrific crash when his motorcycle collided with a 4WD

The family of a father killed in a crash hugged him and told him they loved him before he died when his motorcycle collided with a car on his way to work.

Ken Hembrow, 37, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a 4WD at the intersection of Adelaide and Queen streets in Brisbane on January 11.

The accident happened just minutes away from where Mr Hembrow and his wife Chrissy co-owned the Urban Hair Loft hair salon.

Mrs Hembrow said the last time she and the couple’s two young daughters, Willow and Hazel, had seen the devoted family man alive, it had been a normal morning.

“Basically he left us at 7:20 to go to work, kissed the girls goodbye, they waved and said, ‘I love you, daddy,'” Ms Hembrow told the Courier mail.

‘I got to work a little later and realized the salon sign wasn’t out. I saw that the door was closed and that there were customers waiting.

“I knew something terrible had happened.”

Holly Moore, one of Mr. Hembrow’s clients, has one GoFundMe to assist Mrs. Hembrow and the couple’s two young daughters financially.

‘Ken was my hairdresser, not only talented at what he did, but also a devoted ‘girl’ dad who always enjoyed the chance to tell me how wonderful his girls Willow & Hazel were and how happy he was to see them grow,” Ms. Moore said.

“There was a passion in his parenting that most would envy.”

Ms Moore said Mr Hembrow’s passion for his girls “could also be matched by his love for Chrissy, his beautiful, devoted and also talented wife”.

Mr Hembrow was remembered ‘as kind, caring, gentle, loving, talented and just a wonderfully genuine human being’.

Police are calling on anyone who has CCTV or CCTV footage that can prove the accident to come forward

‘Please help me by donating to this fund that will go to Chrissy, Ken’s adoring wife, to ease this enormous burden and the stress of having to raise her beautiful little family without missing the presence of the man they adore and love,” Mrs. Moore wrote.

Mrs. Hembrow, who became Mr. Hembrow’s high school sweetheart at age 16, called her husband of 12 years a “gentle giant.”

“Everyone loved him, he was called a gentle giant, who always included everyone and made people before him happy,” she said.

Urban Hair Loft is temporarily closed as the Hembrow family deals with their loss.

Mr. Hembrow was a motorcyclist with 12 years of experience.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash and has appealed for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
