Has your Google Pixel keyboard suddenly shrunk? You are not alone
They say size doesn’t matter, but it clearly does when some Google Pixel users report their virtual keyboards suddenly getting smaller. On the r/GooglePixle subredditas indicated by 9to5Googlea series of Pixel phone users surfaced to say that Gboard β Google’s official Android virtual keyboard β suddenly becomes small and appears in a window shape, or that the keyboard itself is the right size but the font on it is small, despite that it is configured correctly in the settings.
Both keyboard mutations will be tricky, although the latter may not be as problematic for people who can type deftly on virtual keyboards. Otherwise, small fonts will make Gboard very difficult to use unless you are gifted with microscopic vision.
βIt’s happened to me a few times. Turn your phone to landscape orientation, wait for Gboard to appear (then turn it back to portrait orientation). That solved it for me. The first time was weird, then it’s just annoying,β explains Reddit user DevilAlien.
Google Pixel Fold users don’t seem to be immune to this problem either, with Redditor SergioSzm noting: βI had this problem on my Fold too and an hour later it went away on its own. Couldn’t find anything to get back to normal size. And I didn’t do/change anything.β
It’s not exactly the biggest surprise that I’m having trouble with Pixel phones β I still remember the wickedly slow fingerprint scanner on the Google Pixel 6 Pro. But it’s a strange problem and probably one that could frustrate users if it keeps happening. For what it’s worth, the Ny Breaking team’s Google Pixel users haven’t encountered any such issues at the time of writing.
So this problem could be a problem that has a limited impact, but if you encounter it, you can be sure that you are not alone and not going crazy, and this is indeed a problem that others face.
If the shrinking keyboard is affecting you, I suggest a simple restart of your Pixel phone could be the panacea for the problem. If the problem still persists, you may want to double check that your Gboard is configured correctly and that you are using the latest version of Android and the Pixel Launcher. To do the latter, go to the Institutionsscroll to About phone and then Android version to get the version of Google’s mobile operating system running on your phone.
