Harry Styles filed a lawsuit against unauthorized merchandise sellers in Chicago on Thursday.
Representatives for the 28-year-old singer are taking legal action against singers online in a bid to crack down on counterfeit goods that fans often buy without realizing they aren’t genuine.
The lawsuit stated, “Plaintiff is compelled to bring this action to combat Defendants’ counterfeiting of its trademarks, as well as to protect unsuspecting consumers from purchasing counterfeit goods over the Internet.”

The items also appear on legitimate marketplace websites, such as Etsy and Amazon, and the lawsuit argued that they make it “difficult for consumers to distinguish those stores from an authorized retailer.”
The former One Direction singer wants all counterfeit item listings removed, and Billboard Pro reports that the lawsuit lists specific URLs rather than actual vendors or people.
It also notes that many of the items are from sellers based primarily in China and “other foreign jurisdictions with a lax trademark enforcement system.”
The lawsuit added: “The tactics used by the defendants to conceal their identities and the full scope of their operation make it virtually impossible for the plaintiff to learn the true identities of the defendants and the exact interaction of their spoofed network.” .

The lawsuit does not name the specific sellers to prevent them from trying to circumvent the action.
Harry’s lawyers explained: “Should the defendants learn of these proceedings prematurely, the likely result would be the destruction of relevant documentary evidence and the concealment or transfer of assets to foreign jurisdictions.”
Making the case against specific sites rather than sellers is a tactic that Nike, Ray-Ban, Toyota and Tommy Hilfiger have used in recent months.
