Harry Maguire’s retrial is set for February 7 in Greece – three and a half years after his conviction for assault and attempted bribery.
Maguire takes a holiday after playing his last game of the season in England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia at Old Trafford on Monday night.
But his arrest during a family holiday on the Greek island of Mykonos in August 2020 still hangs over the Manchester United captain.
Maguire was given a suspended prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days by a court on the island of Syros after he was found guilty of assaulting police, resisting arrest and attempted bribery. His brother Joe and friend Christopher Sharman were both sentenced to 13 months, also suspended for three years.
Maguire appealed, which automatically led to the conviction being overturned and a retrial in a higher court. He cannot receive a heavier sentence if he is found guilty again.

The Man United captain was arrested in 2020 and had his initial conviction overturned
However, the hearing was delayed by the Covid pandemic and was due to take place earlier this month before Maguire’s legal team asked for it to be postponed again.
It has now been moved to February 7, although Maguire is not expected to appear in person.
