Harry Maguire found himself at the heart of the chaos as Manchester United’s FA Cup tie with Arsenal culminated in an on-pitch brawl at the Emirates.

Tempers reached a boiling point between the historic rivals when the referee pointed to the spot with 20 minutes to play and called for a foul after Maguire caught Kai Havertz in the penalty area.

This decision was not taken kindly by the Man United centre-back, who pleaded his innocence to the referee and appeared to accuse Havertz of diving.

Because the referee had no VAR available in the third round of the FA Cup match, the penalty was not overturned, causing all hell to break loose between the players.

Furious with his opponent, Maguire shouted: “You cheating bastard” at Havertz just before an almighty brawl broke out.

Both groups of players started to face off, with Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte also colliding with Havertz as the German hit the deck.

Martin Odegaard was thwarted from the spot as Altay Bayindir produced a fantastic save

After things calmed down, Martin Odegaard came forward with the intention of heading home and putting the Gunners ahead.

However, Altay Bayindir produced a stunning save to keep the match level, with the match ultimately forced into extra time.

Arsenal initially trailed, with Bruno Fernandes firing Ruben Amorim’s side ahead after being played through by Alejandro Garnacho.

The Gunners found reprieve through Gabriel, whose effort flew past Bayindir after denying Matthijs de Ligt.

The penalty incident was far from the only drama to unfold in the match, with Diogo Dalot handed his marching orders for a reckless challenge in the period between the two goals, which earned him a second yellow.

Both teams then went into extra time looking for a winner to keep their respective FA Cup dreams alive. However, neither side could find the finishing touch, forcing the match to penalties.

It was Havertz’s miss that proved crucial in the shootout, with Joshua Zirkzee putting United’s fifth and final penalty past David Raya to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
