Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich move within a point of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen as England captain and Jamal Musiala strike in 3-0 win against Hoffenheim

  • Jamal Musiala struck twice as Bayern closed the gap at the top of the table
  • Thomas Tuchel’s team comes within one point of leader Bayer Leverkusen
  • Why haven’t Arsenal made a move for Newcastle goalkeeper Dominic Solanke? He will fit in the North East… It all starts

Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala both scored as Bayern Munich secured an important 3-0 win over Hoffenheim on Friday evening.

It was a perfect evening for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who fell one point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.

German youngster Musiala scored goals either side of half-time to secure victory at the Allianz Arena and extend Bayern’s unbeaten run to five games.

Harry Kane led the way that night and looked unlikely to add to his Bundesliga tally until he did in the final moments of the match.

The England captain collected the ball on the edge of the area and neatly turned before firing into the back of the Hoffenheim net.

Kane equaled Robert Lewandowski’s record for most goals in the first half of a Bundesliga season, which stands at 22.

Things became more difficult for the hosts after Grischa Prömel was sent off for the visitors in the second half.

The midfielder was booked either side of the break before being sent off, leaving his side with a mountain to climb in Munich.

New signing Eric Dier was spotted in the crowd watching the match after completing a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday evening.

Before the match, Bayern Munich paid tribute to club legend Franz Beckenbauer following the 78-year-old’s death on Sunday.

Beckenbauer’s health had gradually deteriorated since his son Stephan died in 2015, and since then the iconic German player and manager has struggled with Parkinson’s disease and dementia, as well as undergoing heart surgery.

The Bundesliga giants announced that they would mark Beckenbauer’s passage with some special gestures ahead of kick-off at the Allianz Arena.

The Bayern players warmed up in Beckenbauer’s iconic number 5 shirt and wore training jackets from the ‘Der Kaiser’ era.

Beckenbauer’s own song, “Gute Freunde,” played over the stadium loudspeakers as the squads filed out, and both teams wore black armbands for the tie.
