Harry Kane will not play in Tottenham’s friendly with Barcelona after Bayern Munich rejected the ‘final’ £86m offer for the England star

Harry Kane will not travel to Barcelona for Tottenham Hotspur’s final pre-season friendly on Tuesday night as the striker insists on a quick fix to his Bayern Munich transfer saga.

Spurs on Monday rejected Bayern’s ‘final’ bid of £86 million for the England star, but it is clear the German champions could return with another offer.

Kane, 30, has set his own personal deadline of this Sunday – when Spurs open their Premier League campaign at Brentford – for Bayern to agree a deal, or commit for the season.

He has one year left on his current contract with Tottenham and could therefore leave next summer for nothing.

Kane is one of several Spurs players who played in Sunday’s 5-1 friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk and did not fly to Barcelona for the Joan Gamper Trophy match.

He scored four times against the Ukrainians and received a standing ovation from the crowd, who chanted ‘we want you to stay’.

Mail Sport revealed last month that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was seeking around £120m for Kane but was willing to accept a fee closer to £100m given his contract situation.

Mail Sport understands that if Kane were to leave Spurs he would prefer his boyhood club to get a fee out of it.

Sources have indicated that of Bayern’s latest bid, the guaranteed portion, believed to be in the region of £73 million, was deemed too low for Kane’s worth.

In response to Bayern’s Friday night deadline for Spurs to make a decision on their offer, Levy flew to the States – not exactly the reaction they wanted.

It’s understandable why he’s so eager to keep his talisman, even with just one year left on his contract.

Spurs hope progress under new manager Ange Postecoglou can convince Kane to sign a contract extension with a release clause before he can go free next summer.

Despite Kane putting in a sustained lap of honor after the Spurs win over Shakhtar on Sunday, Postecoglou said he plans to start the season with him up front.

“There’s no doubt I’d use Harry,” Postecoglou said. “He’s a fantastic striker, one of the best in the world. The way the team plays will help him. He likes goals, we created a lot of chances today and he was the beneficiary.’
