Harry Kane is sent FLYING into Gareth Southgate and collides with the England dugout during Switzerland quarter-final – before being hooked just moments later with penalties looming

Harry Kane fell into the England dugout during Saturday’s quarter-final against Switzerland, colliding with Gareth Southgate.

In the closing stages of extra time, the England captain battled for the ball with defender Manuel Akanji before crashing into the Three Lions dugout.

The England captain was substituted minutes later after appearing to injure his leg in the bizarre incident, with Southgate trying to protect him from falling.

Fortunately for England, manager Southgate was unharmed in the incident, helping to soften the blow for Kane by sticking his arm out.

The incident came at a bad time for England. The score was 0-0 and it was time for a penalty shootout, with Kane being the team’s most famous taker.

Fortunately for the Three Lions, England won on penalties, with all five of their penalties coming courtesy of Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The last-minute incident was the icing on the cake of a frustrating afternoon for the Bayern Munich star, who was kept calm throughout the match by the Swiss defence.

During the match, Jamie O’Hara described Kane as the English version of Cristiano Ronaldo as he criticised the Three Lions captain’s performance.

He told talkSPORT: ‘He doesn’t look fit, he’s lazy. He really irritates me.’

“I’m worried that we have Ronaldo in the team and we have to field him.”

O’Hara was not alone in criticising the England captain during the first half.

Bukayo Saka fired a dangerous ball into the Swiss penalty area in the opening 45 minutes, but Kane did not look too desperate in his attempts to get the ball.

BBC commentator Alan Shearer said: ‘That’s a good ball and Bukayo Saka has every chance to say: ‘Where are you?’

England manager Southgate had no choice but to take the attacker off the match

‘Saka waits for someone to come into the box and Harry Kane doesn’t actually move at all.’

The comparisons with Ronaldo are a damning indictment of the England captain as the Portuguese star struggled at Euro 2024.
