Harry Kane is a doubt due to his injury during the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Aston Villa on Wednesday, Vincent Kompany has revealed.

The England captain was forced off late in Bayern’s 1-1 draw against champions Bayer Leverkusen after sustaining an ankle injury.

The striker went down after being caught by Amine Adli and received treatment before being replaced by Thomas Muller with four minutes to go.

‘I’m not a doctor, but I hope it’s nothing serious. It’s still early to tell. Hopefully he will be fit on Wednesday,” Kompany told Sky Sports.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl added: “If Harry leaves the field, that’s something. Now I hope it is made of sturdy English wood.’

Kane will undergo an examination on Sunday ahead of Bayern’s visit to Villa Park as the side hope to make it two wins from two in the Champions League this season.

The former Tottenham striker has started the season well with ten goals in seven games in all competitions.

The England interim manager will also be hopeful Kane’s injury is not serious, with the Three Lions set to face Greece and Finland in the Nations League in the coming weeks.

The draw at the Allianz Arena ended Bayern’s perfect start to the season, after Bayern had won all their previous six games.

Bayer Leverkusen took the lead when Robert Andrich smashed the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area after being picked up by Granit Xhaka inside 31 minutes.

Eight minutes later the hosts leveled thanks to Aleksandar Pavlovic’s brilliant strike from 25 yards into the top corner.
