  • Harry Kane scored a penalty for England to make European Championship history

Harry Kane made European Championship history with his equaliser in England’s semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday night.

The Three Lions fell behind after just seven minutes when Xavi Simons headed past Jordan Pickford from the edge of the box, but Kane was awarded a penalty 11 minutes later after being caught by Denzel Dumfries in the box.

The England captain stepped up and fired his penalty into the bottom corner to bring his team level.

It was Kane’s sixth knockout goal at the European Championship, more than any other player in the history of the competition.

This is Kane’s third European Championship, but he failed to score in his first in 2016.

Five years later he made amends by scoring against Germany, twice against Ukraine and then in England’s semi-final against Denmark.

The 30-year-old striker failed to score in the final against Italy, which England lost on penalties at Wembley.

His performances in Germany have been criticised, but Kane did score the winning goal for England against Slovakia in the round of 16.

He then scored his sixth knockout goal from the penalty spot to bring England back into the match after their early defeat to the Netherlands.
