‘He’s been through a tough time outside of football’: Harry Kane says Tottenham are teaming up for Antonio Conte after the Italian manager lost two close friends in four months, reveals they had a team meeting over poor form

Harry Kane has revealed that the Spurs squad is coming together for Antonio Conte after the head coach mourned the deaths of two close friends in the past four months.

Kane was speaking after scoring the winning goal in Tottenham’s visit to Fulham, who won 1-0 thanks to a resounding goal from the England captain.

In a conversation with Sky Sports, the striker admitted that Spurs’ first-team manager has had a “difficult time outside of football” and the team hope to distract him from that.

The Tottenham striker said: “He’s been through a difficult time outside of football with his personal life. Being part of a team isn’t just the players, it’s the manager, the staff and being there for each other.

We want to win every game for him. He puts a lot of passion into every training session. And we want to repay him with victories. We had a nice meeting with each other with the manager in the week just to talk and come back.

We are going to continue fighting, like the coach. He is a passionate coach and we just have to keep working hard for him.”

Towards the end of 2022, Conte mourned the deaths of Tottenham fitness trainer Gian Piero Ventrone and former teammate Gianluca Vialli.

Ventrone passed away suddenly in October last year after a battle with leukaemia, while former Chelsea manager Vialli passed away from pancreatic cancer earlier this month.

As a consequence, it has cast doubt on the Italian’s future in north London as he continues to deal with the difficult tests of last year.

Gianluca Vialli, a former teammate of Conte’s, tragically passed away at the start of the new year.

Kane spoke after scoring the winner in Tottenham’s Premier League trip to Craven Cottage on Monday night.

The England captain came up with a goal just before half time after pulling away from Fulham’s Tim Ream and shooting into the back of the net.

The goal took Kane to 266 goals in his Tottenham career and the level of club legend Jimmy Greaves.

The England striker will hope to outplay Greaves in Spurs’ next outing as they travel to Preston North End in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
