Prince Harry is seen as an ’empty cannon’ by the royal family – while Meghan Markle ‘seems determined to destroy the institution’, experts claim
Prince Harry is viewed by the royal family as an “empty gun,” while Meghan Markle “seems determined to destroy the institution,” a royal expert claimed.
In the Channel 5 documentary Harry & Meghan: Is America Turning Against Them? wrote author Tom Quinn about the royal family’s current attitude towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Over the past year, the couple – who now live in Montecito, California – have launched a series of attacks on the royal family.
In their Netflix docu-series, for which they were reportedly paid £88 million, Prince Harry, 38, accused his family of having a ‘massive level of unconscious bias’ and said he was ‘terrified’ of Prince William as he ‘screamed and screamed’ to him’ during the infamous ‘Sandringham Summit’.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry claimed in his biography that his brother physically assaulted him at Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace and also shared private messages the Princess of Wales sent his wife about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.

In the new Channel 5 documentary, royal experts discuss the Duke and Duchess’s declining popularity in the US and the state of their relationship with the Firm.
Channel 5’s royal correspondent Tom Quinn claimed that members of the royal family now see Prince Harry as a “loose cannon.”
He said: ‘The royal family will be deeply upset by the fact that they have this loose cannon, someone who was William [once] close to.’
In addition, the expert believes that the royal family believes that Meghan is determined to “destroy” the company.
Tom added: ‘[Harry] is married to this woman who seems to be encouraging him to destroy the royal family.”
But no matter how many interviews the Duke and Duchess give about their time in the business, Tom says senior working royals will never respond to the accusations.
He continued: ‘Very sensibly, and in line with tradition, the Royal Family [will never] say anything other than things like “memories may vary” about these different events.’
Following their 2021 interview with Oprah, the late Queen released a statement saying that “some memories may differ” about the various allegations the couple made.

Her Majesty said an alleged racist remark about the color of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby Archie was “concerning” and would be “addressed privately by the family”.
Elsewhere in the documentary, royal expert Richard Kay said Prince Harry “looked tantalizing” staying in the UK for just 28 hours to attend King Charles’s coronation last month.
The expert said: ‘That was ill-advised, it looked grumpy.
“[It inferred] “I’m only here because I need to be here, because I’m the king’s son, but I can’t wait to be gone.”
The documentary comes just months after a Newsweek poll showed Harry and Meghan had US approval ratings of -10 and -17, respectively.
Harry & Meghan: Is America Turning Against Them? airs at 9:10pm on Channel 5 this Saturday.
