Australian Olympic boxer Harry Garside’s lawyers tell court they have new evidence after medalist was charged with alleged domestic violence against ex-girlfriend
- Lawyers claim that images show that the ex was the aggressor
- Boxer was charged with domestic violence on May 3
- The case will be brought to court on Wednesday
Lawyers representing Olympic boxer Harry Garside have said video footage shows his ex being the aggressor as he faces court for assaulting her.
The 25-year-old was arrested at Sydney Airport earlier this month as he was flying home from South Africa after filming I’m a Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here!
NSW police arrested the boxer, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, as he made his way to baggage claim and charged him with domestic violence for assault against his former partner.
Garside appeared in court at Downing Center in Sydney on Wednesday alongside high-profile defamation lawyer Sue Chrysanthou and barrister Rebekah Giles.
He was sitting in the front row of the public gallery next to Mrs. Giles when his case came up.

Ms Chrysanthou told the court she had made ‘substantial statements’ to police regarding additional material that police could not access.
“Particularly a video of the incident in question where we say the complainant is the aggressor,” Ms Chrysanthou said.
“Other material in which she has threatened to go to the police to make false complaints.”
The case was adjourned for two weeks, when the letter of evidence is expected to be served.
Neither Garside nor his lawyers answered questions to the media outside of court.
The court ruling comes just a day after Garside’s mother underwent cancer surgery.
“All the best today mom, hopefully the last surgery and then the rebuild,” he wrote in an Instagram story on Tuesday.
Garside’s legal team told the court there is video footage showing his ex-partner was the aggressor in the alleged incident
The case was adjourned at the Downing Center in Sydney until June 7 and Garside (pictured fighting Manuer Matet on April 22) was granted conditional bail
The indictment comes after an investigation into an alleged incident related to domestic violence at Bellevue Hill on March 1.
Garside was granted conditional bail and the case will go to court on June 7.
The boxer had taken a photo with his father before their flight from South Africa and uploaded it to Instagram.
“Had to upgrade my best friend to do business with me. His first time flying business,” he wrote on the post.
The pair had been abroad for several weeks while Garside filmed for the Channel 10 reality show won by former netball player Liz Ellis.
Garside has won seven Australian National Boxing Championships.
