Harry Brook showed what England will be missing in their World Cup title defense this autumn by hitting an extraordinary hundred for Northern Superchargers at Headingley.
Brook, the trap player in the provisional 15-man squad after Ben Stokes signaled his willingness to come out of a one-day retirement, responded to the criticism by rushing to the milestone with just 41 balls, allowing the hosts to recover from a woeful position of 10 for three against Welsh Fire in the process.
The 24-year-old’s seventh six, cut over coverage of David Payne’s bowling from the penultimate delivery of the innings, saw him become only the third centurion in the men’s version of the Hundred behind Will Jacks and Will Smeed.
When he smeared his 11th four on the next ball, he left the field to a huge ovation after scoring 105 of the Superchargers’ total of 158. Adam Hose was next best among his teammates, contributing 15.
