Nelson Mandela’s eldest granddaughter has criticized an Australian newspaper after she was quoted accusing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of “profiting off” her family’s legacy to promote their Netflix documentary.

Ndileka Mandela made headlines earlier this month when Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reported that she had criticized the royal couple for “stealing” her grandfather’s name for her own personal gain.

Danielle Gusmaroli, the paper’s correspondent in Europe, cited the social activist as “deeply upset” that the Sussexes had used quotes from the late South African president in their documentary series Live To Lead.

But since then, Ms Mandela has angrily called out the tabloid and Ms Gusmaroli has twisted her words and exploited her grandfather’s name to launch an attack on the royal couple.

In an opinion piece for the London newspaper the independent on Sunday, Mrs Mandela criticized the newspaper for ‘using my name as a weapon’.

She said her grandfather’s reputation had been used to attack a woman of color.
