  • Harper Cadman, 15, disappeared on January 30 while flying to LA
  • Her checked bag arrived back in California, but the family has not heard from her
  • Detectives believe she is in Boulder or Denver but are concerned for her safety

Fears are growing for the safety of a California teenager who went missing after disappearing during an airport layover.

Harper Cadman, 15, was last seen at Denver International Airport, where she was scheduled to catch a connecting flight to her home state.

She landed on a United Airlines flight from Montana around 8:27 a.m. on January 30, but never boarded her next plane.

However, her checked bag has been returned to LA, according to the teen’s mother, Ari Petronelli.

She and other members of the teen’s family headed to Colorado on a frantic search to find her daughter, but have so far been unable to track her down. Her mother has since returned to care for her other children.

Cadman’s mother and aunt flew to Colorado to try to find the teen, as investigators believe she may be in the Boulder or Denver area (Denver International Airport is pictured with the Rocky Mountains in the background).

“Leaving Colorado without her felt like abandoning my little girl and tearing my heart into a million pieces, not knowing if she is warm or safe or has food in her stomach,” Petronelli said. “I’ll come back and look for her as soon as I can.”

Cadman is believed to be in Denver or Boulder, but her family is “extremely concerned for her safety” as she does not know anyone in the Colorado area.

Petronelli said her daughter had undergone treatment for mental health issues and was transferred home.

She is especially concerned because Cadman was last seen wearing only leggings and a sweatshirt and without her belongings.

“My sister and I spent the past week scouring Denver and Boulder, speaking to investigators, lawyers, unhoused people and ‘street kids,’” Petronelli added.

“What we saw was a very cold, frightening and dangerous situation for everyone, but especially for a 15-year-old girl who was at risk.”

It is the second time in a year that the teenager has disappeared, much to the sadness of her mother.

“I feel nauseous as I write this and I never thought I would ever have to post my own child’s missing airman again, but if this past year has taught me anything it’s that life just has no meaning,” Petronelli wrote . Facebook.
