One of British fashion’s most influential figures is believed to have helped broker a multi-million pound deal that secured the buyout of fashion group N Brown.
Harold Tillman, former head of fashion brand Jaeger and luxury retailer Aquascutum, brokered negotiations between retail magnate Mike Ashley and Lord Alliance, whose family took control of N Brown for £191m in October, a source said.
At the time of the acquisition, Ashley’s Frasers Group owned just over 20 percent of N Brown.
Ashley reportedly approached Tillman to help discuss the buyout with Alliance, chairman of N Brown since 1968.

It resulted in a takeover by a company controlled by Joshua Alliance, the chairman’s son.
It is not known whether Tillman, the former chairman of the British Fashion Council, received any compensation for his services.
