Two brothers have turned a family home into one of Britain’s brightest Christmas light displays.

Lee and Paul Brailsford have been decorating their mother Rosemary’s house in Brentry, Bristol, since 1994 to raise money for charity.

They have already raised more than £92,000 for The Grand Appeal, the charity of Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and they expect the total to reach £100,000 this year.

Lee, a carpenter, and Paul, a bricklayer, take six weeks to erect the exhibit that features dozens of figures, including Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen and 50 shapes of string lights.

There are trains, elves and a life-size Nativity Scene of America, powered by thousands of LED lights in the dazzling display.

The display is typically illuminated for five hours a day, but this year it will run for four hours, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, due to rising energy costs.

Town halls and other fundraising charities have been forced to scale back or scale back their dazzling festive light displays due to eye-watering power bills.

European gas and electricity wholesale prices have increased mainly due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and pent-up demand after the pandemic.

And just at the time of year when people should be celebrating, it hits the public and private holiday displays.
