Aaron Rodgers almost seemed impressed when he got the chance to meet the “Voice of God,” Liev Schreiber, on the first episode of the new Hard Knocks series.
The series, which this year follows the New York Jets as they enter a new era with Rodgers at the helm, began Tuesday night.
The opening episode revolves around the arrival of the 39-year-old quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. But the real star of the show — at least in Rodgers’ eyes — is the show’s iconic narrator, Schreiber.
Toward the start of Tuesday’s episode, Rodgers was asked about the prospect of his squad’s preparations for the season being caught on camera.
“One of the few things I like about Hard Knocks is the Voice of God, which tells it,” he said. “I hope I get to meet him.”

Then, halfway through a training session in New York, a helicopter appears overhead. Rodgers speculates it could be Schreiber and his wish was granted when the actor stepped out of the helicopter.
Schreiber introduces himself to Rodgers, who takes off his helmet and says, “Nice to meet you…I’ve always been a fan of yours.”
The quarterback adds, “There are a lot of your movies that I love… it’s great to see you.”
Schreiber replies, “I’m glad you’re here, man…you’ve made a lot of New Yorkers very happy.” To which Rodgers responds, “Me too… I’m having a great time.
The quarterback then tries to convince his Jets teammates and staff to meet the narrator. ‘It’s the voice of God! Didn’t you say hello? Go say hello!’ he says, before telling offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, “Don’t be an asshole … he’s nervous, he wants to meet people.”
Later in the episode, the cameras captured a heartwarming exchange between 39-year-old Rodgers and 22-year-old cornerback Sauce Gardner.

“One day you’ll be here,” Rodgers tells his younger teammate. ‘I’ll be really old and gray’
The pair were chatting on the field ahead of the Jet’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame Game.
“One day you’ll be here,” Rodgers tells his teammate. “When that happens, I’ll be very old and gray.”
Gardner replies, “Hey man, that’s the plan…my mom always told me to stay a kid as long as possible.
“And it’s like, if I’m actually going to do this little brother, I’m going to get older. Because I have ambitions to play in the league for 40 years.’
Rodgers nods as he replies, “It’s going to take a long time.”
