‘I had a very bad accident’: Happy Mondays’ Bez reveals he was involved in a near-fatal accident while on holiday in Magaluf

Happy Mondays star Bez has revealed he was involved in a near-fatal accident, which happened in February this year.

The 59-year-old musician, who rose to fame in the 1980s, was involved in a terrifying motorcycle accident while on holiday in the Spanish resort of Magaluf.

The hitmaker broke several bones and ligaments during the ordeal that took place as he drove back to the resort where he was staying.

He told the Daily star: ‘We were off road in the mountains near Magaluf – it was literally on our way home. I lost the front and had a really bad accident.

“I broke bones, I broke my foot and put in all my ligaments.

Lucky to be alive: Bez, 59, star of Happy Monday, has revealed he was involved in a near-fatal accident, which happened in February this year

“I’ve just recovered, it still hurts a little and it’s not quite right, but it’s getting easier.”

Bez, whose full name is Mark Berry, has refused to let the accident deter him from riding and has admitted he will ‘never give up’ cycling because he finds it too exciting.

The Maraca player went on to say that riding a motorcycle on a public road is a great way for him to calm down the noise in his head.

Bez is currently gearing up for his performance at Glastonbury later this month with new ’90s supergroup, Mantra of the Cosmos.

He and former Happy Mondays bandmate Shaun Ryder, 60, have joined Oasis’ Andy Bell and Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey to form the group.

The four ’90s legends put on a raucous show at London’s The Box earlier this month – with Bez relishing the chance to perform his first-ever solo on the maracas.

Despite being known for their rock and roll status, Bez and Ryder are also known for entertaining the nation when they appear together on Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox.

Bez has also appeared on Hollyoaks for a cameo appearance and took part in Dancing on Ice last year.

He teamed up with Angela Egan and was the first contestant in the show’s history to wear a helmet during his performances.

During rehearsals, he fell onto the ice several times, including one time that left him dazed after his helmet flew across the rink.

The star gave up booze to stay fully focused on improving his skating.

Mantra of the Cosmos will take Glastonbury by storm with a performance on the Glade Stage at 8.20pm on Sunday.
