Happy Gilmore fans issue verdict on Travis Kelce’s cameo in Adam Sandler sequel months before film’s release
After more than thirty years in Hollywood, Adam Sandler has become accustomed to negative reviews.
Travis Kelce, Sandler’s new co-star in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel, may have less experience in that area.
“Kelce ruined everything,” one fan wrote on X after a trailer played during Wednesday’s Christmas Day doubleheader.
“This is going to be horrible,” another added.
One commenter referenced an interview with Patrick Mahomes, who suggested the Chiefs star tight end should get some “acting lessons” over Christmas.
“No wonder Mahomes wants to buy him acting lessons,” the person wrote after watching Kelce in the 30-second spot on Netflix.
Travis Kelce appeared to be a hotel or country club employee in the “Happy Gilmore” trailer
The film is expected to be released on Netflix in July 2025.
Kelce, who has already dipped his toe into acting by hosting Saturday Night Live, has a much-discussed cameo in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel. And in a remarkable coincidence, or a blatant display of corporate synergy, a preview for the upcoming Netflix release was shown during the Chiefs’ 29-10 win over the Steelers on the streaming service on Wednesday.
The Chiefs tight end appears in the preview alongside music star Bad Bunny and “Modern Family” actress Julie Bowen – a holdover from the original 1996 comedy.
Dressed as a hotel or country club employee, Kelce greets the main character of the film of the same name in the short clip.
“It’s great to see you again, Mr. Gilmore,” he said.
“Can we get Travis Kelce off our TV screen for once?” asked a commenter on
Another referenced Kelce’s endorsement deal with a pharmaceutical company.
“Cheeky,” the person wrote, “doesn’t he have Pfizer commercials to do or something?”
Many others referenced Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
“The crap @nfl is pushing with him and that clown Swift is disgusting,” one critic wrote.
One person conducted a poll on X, which showed that 63.6 percent of respondents are tired of the Kelce brothers. Of course, only 22X users voted, leaving the survey with a fairly small sample size.

Bad Bunny also appears in the trailer, playing the role of Gilmore’s caddy on a golf course.
Kelce scored largely positive reviews for his 2023 appearance on SNL. Moreover, the 35-year-old is facing rumors about his retirement at a time when Hollywood seems to be promising.
Of course, Kelce isn’t done with football yet. The three-time Super Bowl champion surpassed the 1,000-catch mark and broke the Chiefs’ all-time touchdown record with his 77th career score on Wednesday.
Kelce has eight catches for 84 yards in the game, bringing his season reception total to 97. He now has 1,004 career catches.
He and Mahomes will likely hit the road next week in the Chiefs’ regular-season finale against the Broncos, with home field advantage secured through the AFC Championship.
