Hanoi launches pilot EPD platform

A platform for creating, viewing and sharing electronic medical records has been rolled out in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.

The implementation is the result of the synchronization of the medical records of more than 1.2 million Hanoi residents via the e-identification application VNeID.

THE BIGGER CONTEXT

Vietnam began making the Digitalization of medical records in public health institutions in 2019. Until last year 2023, EHRs were introduced in major hospitals. From this year to 2028, all health institutions and hospitals in Vietnam are expected to abandon paper records.

Last year, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health made a decision to implement the Vietnamese EHR platform, which complies with HL7 FHIR interoperability standards.

Hanoi is currently exploring options to enable the sharing of citizens’ health information with the AI-driven Smart Health Operation Centre. As part of the digital transformation of its healthcare system, the city government also plans to use big data, AI and analytics models to analyse and assess disease situations and trends.
