Hannah Kobayashi breaks silence to claim she was ‘unaware of everything’ after vanishing across Mexican border

Hannah Kobayashi has spoken out for the first time since returning to the United States after mysteriously disappearing in Mexico.

The 31-year-old aspiring photographer claimed she was completely “oblivious” to the media reporting of her disappearance last month and her father’s suicide during the search.

She also confirmed that she is now back in the United States, saying, “At dawn on December 15, I crossed the border into the United States.

“My focus now is on my healing, my peace and my creativity,” she says told People. “I am deeply grateful to my family and everyone who has shown me kindness and compassion during this time.

“I was oblivious to everything that happened in the media while I was away, and I’m still processing,” Kobayashi added.

“I kindly ask for respect for myself, my family and my loved ones as I navigate this challenging time. Thank you for your understanding.’

Kobayashi crossed the border from Mexico into California this weekend, where she was questioned by U.S. officials who asked if she was OK, a source said. TMZ.

She appeared healthy when she met her lawyer at the border before leaving with him, and has since been reunited with her family.

Lt. Doug Oldfield, a member of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit, has now confirmed that her case has been closed.

He added that she had spoken with Customs and Border Protection and “did not appear to be in any distress.”

Kobayashi was on her way to New York from her home on the Hawaiian island of Maui when she decided to leave Los Angeles International Airport and disappear on November 8.

She was not alone on that flight, as she was accompanied by her alleged new Green Card husband, Argentina native Alan Cacace, in an apparent attempt to trick immigration officials into believing their marriage was real, DailyMail.com previously revealed.

And on that same flight, her ex-boyfriend Amun Miranda joined them, along with his own so-called Green Card wife Marianne – who happened to be Cacace’s girlfriend.

This messy love square, all on one plane, was only possible because Cacace allegedly gave Kobayashi $15,000 with the promise of a similar amount once the immigration documents were issued allowing him to stay in the United States.

The ruse of their marriage of convenience was already in the works after they tied the knot in October. Photos of the ceremony were shown to Kobayashi’s coworkers at Up ‘N Smoke, the Maui smoke shop where she worked.

“There was no secret,” Desiree, a colleague, told DailyMail.com. “She told us about her plans.”

“The Argentinian couple wanted to go on the trip at the last minute because it provided an opportunity to take photos of their ‘romantic vacation,'” Desiree explained.

But the group’s dynamics quickly became complicated.

Kobayashi’s colleagues told DailyMail.com that she had mixed feelings about going on the trip – she was both excited about checking off a location on her bucket list where she could see family members, but also frustrated that she had to share her flight with ex-boyfriend Miranda .

Her colleagues also revealed that Cacace and his girlfriend were a point of contention for the previously missing woman, who did not want either of them to come on this trip.

Kobayashi reportedly told them that she did not want to waste time taking photos, but would reluctantly sacrifice a day of her weekly planned vacation to accommodate their wishes.

And then there was Marianne, who Kobayashi recently had a fight with, which revolved around her jealousy over marrying her boyfriend Cacace.

“I remember Hannah saying the friend had a problem with her,” Desiree said. “And Hannah said, ‘Girl, I’m not trying to steal your man. This is an arrangement we’ve all talked about beforehand.’

Her family reported her missing three days later after receiving cryptic text messages, including that she had recently undergone a “spiritual awakening” after meeting family in New York.

After she was reported missing, her colleagues decided to do some digging themselves, knowing the backstory of what happened during the trip to New York City.

Desiree, who had known Miranda since high school, texted him to say they were actively looking for his ex. She even asked the name of the Argentinian couple and whether they had reached New York.

“It all seems very suspenseful and you should have told her family she didn’t get on the flight,” Desiree Miranda texted. “Actually, you should have gotten off that flight when you realized she wasn’t on it… Please explain.”

Miranda shot back at the questioning co-worker and said it wasn’t his job to take care of her.

“She’s an adult and I heard she might have plans in Cali too,” he texted.

“I have no reason to get off a plane and miss time on my own journey for something I thought was as simple as missing a flight and catching the next available flight,” he snapped.

“I shouldn’t do anything because she and I broke up three to four months ago and agreed not to have any more contact.”

Miranda and Kobayashi’s plan went haywire when he discovered she had met an ex-boyfriend – a DJ she had been dating for years – which led to their breakup.

Kobayashi’s ex-boyfriend also vehemently defended her alleged Green Card husband Cacace.

“Her husband is sweet and just a little boy and wouldn’t hurt a fly,” he wrote. “He has nothing to do with this.”

Miranda said his best guess was that Kobayashi was no longer using drugs or having a mental health crisis.

“To be honest,” he wrote, “from what her friends and her mother have told me and from the things she said to them leading up to this incident, it is entirely possible that you are having some sort of nervous breakdown from lack of sleep, too much. psychedelics or cola. Don’t know.’

Sources say Kobayashi was known in her hometown for using psychedelics, cocaine and whippets – or laughing gas.

A member of Miranda’s family told DailyMail.com that Kobayashi had a “heavy drug problem” and that this was a factor in her split from him.

“Amun really didn’t like her drug habit,” said Anita Lopez, who lives on his mother’s property. “He was just disgusted by it.”

“There is a difference between recreational use and abuse,” she said.

As the investigation into Kobayashi’s disappearance continued, her father, Ryan Kobayashi, took his own life by reportedly jumping from a building near LAX after traveling to California to help authorities search for her.

He was tragically found dead at the bottom of a car park at around 4am on November 24, just over two weeks after his daughter was reported missing.

The LAPD then announced earlier this month that Kobayashi had voluntarily crossed into Mexico.

Yet her family continued to contradict police in public statements, saying they still did not know if Kobayashi was safe.

They claimed they did not see the surveillance footage of her crossing the border into Mexico until December 2.

Kobayashi finally contacted family members on Wednesday to tell them she was doing well.

Kobayashi’s sister and mother, Sydni Kobayashi and Brandi Yee, have now released a statement through their attorney saying they are “incredibly relieved and grateful that Hannah has been found safe.”

“The past month has been an unimaginable ordeal for our family, and we kindly ask for privacy as we take time to heal and process all we have been through,” they said.

‘We would like to thank everyone who has supported us during this difficult time. Your kindness and care have meant a lot to us.’

The family previously faced backlash after police revealed she was not missing as they raised money for the search.

The donation page raised more than $47,000, but since Kobayashi resurfaced, the family announced they would be ceasing donations and honoring all claims made for reimbursement.

They said: ‘We are closing donations, and any donor who wants a refund can submit a claim before December 18 and it will be honored.’
