Hannah Dingley’s reign as the only female manager in England’s top four leagues is drawing to a close and Forest Green is ready to appoint a new head coach.

Mail Sport understands that Southampton Under-23 coach David Horseman is about to be appointed as the new boss of the League Two side ahead of the new season.

Horseman’s appointment is expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours.

Forest Green placed head of academy Dingley as caretaker of the men’s senior team following the departure of Duncan Ferguson.

In a milestone – revealed exclusively by Mail Sport – for English football, Dingley was handed the reins of the League Two club following Ferguson’s departure on July 4.

Dingley – who holds a UEFA Pro license – became the first woman, albeit temporarily, to manage a men’s team in one of England’s top four divisions.

But her reign is now at an end and Horseman is about to take over.
