You CAN take a horse to water! Firefighters are called in to rescue mare trapped in swimming pool
The Hampshire Fire Brigade was called out on Christmas Day for what must have been their most obscure rescue of the year.
Lola, a mare, was stranded in murky swimming pool water in Swanmore.
Botley firefighters were first called to the scene shortly after 10am on Christmas morning.
Firefighters and specialist animal rescue teams responded to the horses and arrived on the scene where Lola was accidentally trapped.
A Manitou forklift from Eastleigh and an animal specialist from Winchester were also called in to assist in Lola’s rescue operation.
After a rescue plan was drawn up, emergency services managed to hoist the distressed animal out of the pool and back to safety.
This carefully executed plan included calling a veterinarian to help sedate Lola so she could be properly maneuvered out of the water without injury.
The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has since shared that Lola is on the mend and enjoying the freedom of dry land in a neighboring field.
