A man has been charged after allegedly threatening a footballer with a knife at a local rugby league match in a terrifying incident over the weekend.
Wild scenes broke out around 2 p.m. on Saturday at a sports ground in Hammondville, Sydney’s southwest.
It is believed the alleged attack occurred after a reserve grade football match between Chester Hill and Cabramatta rugby league clubs.
A 19-year-old spectator and a player got into an argument before the spectator allegedly threatened the player with a knife.

It is unclear if the two men are related and what they were arguing about at the time before the alleged incident unfolded.
Nearby players and spectators on the ground intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.
Footage showed a crowd forming as the altercation spread in front of families and parents who had visited the oval to watch the game.
No one was injured in the incident.
The 19-year-old man is said to have fled the scene before being found by officers nearby a short time later.
A spokesman for NSW Police said the man was charged after being taken to Liverpool Police Station.
“He was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with assault, armed with intent to commit a criminal offense and wielding a knife in a public place,” he said.
The man from South Wentworthville, in western Sydney, was refused bail and appeared in Liverpool local court on Monday.
He was denied bail and is due back in court on August 21.
