Matildas World Cup star Katrina Gorry has signed a contract with West Ham United for the remainder of the Women's Super League season.

Gorry, 31, has had a stellar career, playing professionally in Japan, the US, Norway, Sweden and Australia, among others.

The midfielder's chance to test himself in the best club competition in women's football proved too good an opportunity to ignore.

“I am very happy to have signed for West Ham United,” the mother of one told West Ham TV.

'The club spoke my language. West Ham is a family club and that was a big factor in me joining.

“I immediately felt the support from everyone and there is no better place for me to be right now.

“The Women's Super League is the competition everyone is talking about at the moment. I want to challenge myself and play against and with the best players in the world.

'I will work hard, try to control the game and do everything I can to help the team, both on and off the pitch.

“I'm very proud and grateful to be here and I'm very excited about what lies ahead.”

Gorry could potentially feature in the Hammers' next match – in the FA Cup fourth round against reigning champions Chelsea on January 15.

The Blues are likely to be led up front by Matildas captain Sam Kerr.

Gorry will also join national teammate Mackenzie Arnold in London and her signing comes after Charli Grant agreed to a deal with Tottenham earlier this week.
