Hamish Blake reveals the A-list celebrity interview which changed his life: ‘I think about it all the time’

Hamish Blake said his whole outlook on life changed after interviewing Virgin co-founder Richard Branson.

The 42-year-old radio star appeared on the ABC series The Meeting He recently said the conversation with the 74-year-old business magnate was a life-changing experience.

He recalls a moment when he was stunned by Richard’s reaction to a 2010 interview for Hamish & Andy, in which a producer asked him for $1,000.

Hamish explained that he was chatting to Richard on the comedy show he hosted with co-star Andy Lee, when producer Jack Post asked the billionaire for some money.

“Jack basically said to him, ‘You’re a billionaire. Can we just go down to the ATM, can you give me a thousand dollars? It doesn’t matter to you, but it will change my month,'” Hamish said.

‘[Richard] was like, “I’ll tell you what – there’s something I’d give you all my money for,” and Jack said, “Really?” and [Richard] says: ‘Your age.’

Hamish went on to say that Jack was 22 at the time and penniless, while Richard was rich and 60. However, the Virgin co-founder insisted that he would enjoy Jack’s life.

“We were like, ‘What do you mean by that?’ and he said, ‘I’d rather be broke and 22 than a billionaire and 68,’ or whatever age he was at the time,” Hamish explained.

He added: ‘It’s true. I think it’s true for all of us. As we get older, you think, “Okay, money is a thing in life, a tool that can certainly take away some bad situations and inconveniences, but it’s not happiness.”

‘It doesn’t compare to the excitement of life, and all good things are free. I think about that all the time.

‘That has always stuck with me: the idea that we have something immediately available to us, for which we would give up all our material possessions in the future.’
