Halyna Hutchins’ parents and husband announce new lawsuit against Alec Baldwin over Rust shooting
- Baldwin was recently charged with manslaughter for the shooting
- Prosecutors say he did not check his gun and did not follow weapons training
- Halyna’s husband and parents are expected to release more information today.
The parents and husband of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins plan to file a new lawsuit against Alec Baldwin for shooting her to death on the set of his movie Rust.
The Hutchins family is represented by Gloria Allred, who is expected to present a press conference later today where more details will be released.
Baldwin has been indicted on one count of manslaughter and is awaiting his first court appearance.
Halyna Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, plans to file a new lawsuit against Baldwin. They are photographed with his son.
Hutchins’ widower and son are shown at a memorial for her in October 2021
He previously settled a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Halyna’s widower, Matthew, making him executive producer of the film when production resumed.
The new lawsuit comes after prosecutors in New Mexico shared search warrants and probable cause affidavits against Baldwin claiming he was not paying attention in weapons training and failed to check the gun he was holding before firing it in the direction to Hutchins.
Baldwin has always maintained his innocence, saying his death was a tragic but not a criminal mistake.
He has promised to fight the charges. He remains in New York City awaiting his first court appearance, which will occur virtually.
The press conference with the Hutchins family will take place Thursday at 2:30 pm EST.
Baldwin, shown after the shooting in October 2021, has vowed to fight the criminal charges.
