Halsey suffers lupus flare-up after VMAs performance as she takes ‘mandatory rest day’ to avoid spiraling
Halsey had a great night at the MTV VMAs with one of the best red carpet looks, a stunning performance, and the confirmation of her engagement to actor Avan Jorgia.
But now she needs some rest to take care of a flare-up of her lupus.
The 29-year-old Without Me singer shared a close-up of her makeup-free face on Instagram Stories.
“VMA week-ed too hard and now the lupus is lupus-ing. Today treatment and a mandatory rest day so I don’t spiral downward. New normal. Love you,” she wrote, adding a pink butterfly on the bridge of her nose.
“The butterfly has always been my special symbol. How ironic and poetic is it that it has taken on this meaning,” she added.

She shared a second photo of her blushing face and added a caption.
“And not my lupus causing blush rush lol @aboutfacebeauty,” she wrote, tagging her cosmetics line.
The news came after the singer (born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane) confirmed that she is engaged to Jogia.
After seeing a social media post that referred to Jogia as her boyfriend, the Bad at Love hitmaker corrected the statement by commenting: “***fiancé Avan Jogia.”
Earlier in the evening she had teased her about whether they were planning to get married, and they were looking forward to tying the knot someday.
“I hope so,” cheered the mother of one, as she asked if she would marry Jogia. “Avan is the best.”
She continued, “He’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. And every day I spend with him is one where I feel like I’m with my best friend.”
Additionally, the About-Face founder raved about being “best friends” with her three-year-old son Ender, whom she shares with ex Alev Aydin. “They’re inseparable,” she said. E! News on the black carpet of the VMAs.
In July, rumors of an engagement between the couple surfaced after they were spotted getting married in public during a romantic picnic.
During the outing, she wore a green emerald, surrounded by smaller, sparkling diamonds, on her left hand.

Halsey and Avan — who have largely kept their relationship private — first sparked romance rumors in June 2023, when they were spotted traveling to Spain.
Later in September, the two were spotted together again on a date in Los Angeles, holding hands.
The following month, the couple made their official Instagram account known, showing off stylish leather outfits designed by Luis De Javier.
The two stars made their red carpet debut at the Monkey Man premiere in West Hollywood in April.
