Halo Infinite is getting Firefight mode and it looks spectacular
Halo InfinityThe upcoming mid-season update brings a host of new features, but the resurrection of the beloved Firefight player vs.
As shown in a fresh trailer From developer 343 Industries, the new Firefight: King of the Hill mode sees you and three other players battle waves of aliens as you strive to conquer hills across a total of nine maps. According to the trailer itself and Halo waypoint – the official Halo blog – these cards include the House of Reckoning Halo Infinity's campaign and three maps created by community members.
It appears the new mode will also fit into the existing leveling and battle pass ecosystem, as Firefight will allow players to “earn career rank and match XP” just like in player versus player (PvP), according to the trailer.
The trailer looks beautiful and shows a band of Spartans roaming around in a Warthog before being chased by a Hunter – a walking alien battle tank. Luckily for our heroes, a new item is added to the game: the Repair Field. This allows players to repair their vehicles immediately, without having to wait for a respawn. For maps with a lot of vehicles, this can be a game changer.
For those new to the party, Halo's legendary Firefight mode began as part of Halo 3: ODST, in which you played as regular humans – a stark contrast to the Spartan super-soldiers of previous games. You would have to hold off waves of alien enemies as they grew stronger. Modifiers of all kinds also made the mode a fan favorite.
The mid-season update also brings improvements to the Rated Player game modes and updates to the ever-popular Forge mode, which allows players to build their own maps. Improvements have also been made to the Custom Game Browser and to Halo Infinity's stability and network infrastructure.
