Two young trick-or-treaters are being praised for saving an elderly woman who was seriously injured on Halloween.
Esma O’Neill was in her Wattletree Road unit in Ferntree Gully, in Melbourne’s east, when she fell.
The 81-year-old woman was seriously injured and unable to move, forcing her to call for help.

Jake Grimshaw and Roy Manning, who were trick-or-treating nearby, heard Mrs O’Neill’s cries for help and sprang into action.
The year six students entered her apartment in response to her pleas, leaving Ms. O’Neill trapped inside for about twenty minutes.
Jake told me 7News he went to help as soon as he heard Mrs. O’Neill’s cry for help.
“I heard someone calling for help and I said, ‘Are you okay?’ And she said, ‘No, I fell and I can’t get up,'” Jake said.
The two schoolmates calmly assessed the situation as the grandmother ordered the pair to get the spare keys to her apartment.
While Jake rushed to get help from people nearby, Roy stayed with Mrs O’Neill until paramedics arrived on the scene.
Mrs O’Neill was then rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery for a broken leg.

Her son Dean was grateful for the boy’s efforts and praised their quick thinking to do what they could until emergency services reached the property.
“They had put Mom behind her lounge chair with some pillows and one of them just comforted her,” he said.
Jake said Mrs. O’Neil was grateful to him and Roy for providing assistance and said he was glad he could help.
“I felt sad, but also happy that we saved her,” he said.
The young boys received lots of treats after their heroic exploits and returned home to find their Halloween buckets filled to the brim.
Jake and Roy plan to visit Mrs. O’Neill in a few weeks once she returns home from the hospital, where she is currently recovering from her injury.
