Halle Berry claims she has spent $200K trying to ‘work with’ ex Olivier Martinez to co-parent son Maceo, 10 amid bitter custody row

Halle Berry claims she spent $200,000 trying to “collaborate” with her ex Olivier Martinez to co-parent their son Maceo, 10, in shock, according to new court documents filed Tuesday.

The 58-year-old Oscar winner married Martinez, 58, in 2013, the same year they welcomed Maceo, and separated in 2016. Their divorce was finalized seven years later in August 2023. The two have been embroiled in a bitter custody battle ever since.

In documents obtained by US weekly Berry claims she has spent more than $200,000 on legal fees, including a “voluntary” contribution of $80,000 toward Martinez’s legal fees.

She alleged that Martinez supports himself with her child support payments — so she “has to go to work.” She claims he objected to paying for a home visit with their therapist during Berry’s time off before changing his mind.

She alleges that Martinez “delayed” court-ordered co-parenting therapy, “despite several follow-up investigations.”

She wrote in the documents: ‘I have made every effort to cooperate with Olivier, communicate with him and involve him in the decision-making process regarding our son. [Maceo] in a friendly way. Olivier has refused to co-parent with me and to communicate with me in a child-centered way; he has been rebellious and unyielding in all important matters concerning Maceo.’

Text messages between the two were also included in the documents, with Berry writing to Martinez, “I’m very sorry that we don’t see eye to eye. I had better expectations for us. I always hoped that we would do better for Maceo and work together like we did for Van [Hunt- her partner]

‘It’s all gone to hell since then. We used to try to get along before maceos [sic] sake, now you don’t even want to try and I tried Olivier… you know I tried.

“But you just keep getting mad and I don’t know why. We need to let go of all that anger and do better. Maceo deserves that. I’m tired of being called a liar. [sic]I’m tired of fighting with you and I’m quitting. If you want to continue this negativity, that’s your fault, but I don’t want anything to do with it… we need to ban it [sic] together now more than ever. However we do it, we have to do it together and not fight. Just my opinion, but you make your choice.’

Martinez replied, “The only way to work together is to [sic] way. that is [sic] do not cooperate. you [a]regarding [sic] playing dirty like you always did by not posting maceos [sic] best interest first but karma is coming don’t worry [sic].

Berry alleged that Martinez is causing “detrimental harm” to their son with his latest request to delay an upcoming custody hearing.

Martinez, on the other hand, had already indicated a week earlier that Berry was taking advantage of him by not giving him time to prepare and “trying to get a hearing as quickly as possible” to give him “the bare minimum.”

Berry made headlines last month when he pushed for sole custody of Maceo.

The actress claims their son struggles in school and is “a grade behind,” adding that he has been diagnosed with ADHD and mild dyslexia.

She adds that Maceo’s father is:Either he is unaware of his problems or he casually ignores them, which she believes proves that he is not fit for custody.

The actress claims that Martinez is delaying the custody hearing, which will impact the “ruling on necessary interventions for the parties’ struggling child.”

She also claims the actor is trying to “get more money from her.”

Martinez had previously stated that he needs an “expert” to testify on his behalf, which she calls “nonsense.”

“It would be unfair, and certainly disadvantageous to Maceo, to extend the September 10, 2024 hearing for an additional 120 days based on the fact that third-party witnesses are expected to testify or that Olivier must somehow engage other unidentified experts,” the documents state.

Shortly after Berry submitted his request, Martinez responded that the actress “refuses” to set a date that suits him.

He added that Berry rejected his request for help paying his legal fees, despite: ‘“I admit I was making millions of dollars at that time.”
