Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley on Saturday doubled down on her pressure for US presidents and lawmakers to take competency tests if they are over 75, even suggesting she would take one.

Haley was one of two Republican presidential candidates who addressed the Palmetto Family Council’s Vision ’24 National Conservative Forum in North Charleston on Saturday afternoon.

She had announced her presidential candidacy from Charleston in mid-February and proposed “mandatory mental competency tests” for politicians 75 and older.

“Joe Biden got upset and said I was being ridiculous when I said that,” Haley said Saturday. I’m not being rude when I say that. I don’t care if you do mental competency tests for everyone over 50.

“You can’t tell me that Joe Biden was the same as he was two years ago, he’s not,” he told the crowd.

“Look at everyone else in DC,” he said. “They’re all old,” she pointed out, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Haley, who served as Trump’s ambassador to the UN and before that was the governor of South Carolina, has focused her campaign on the fact that she would represent generational change.

“We need a new generation of people,” he argued Saturday.

She would also be the first female president, if elected.

Haley, however, continues to struggle in the polls, with the current Real Clear Politics polling average at 6.3 percent.

On stage Saturday, Haley had to endure a question that probably wouldn’t have been posed to a man.

“You’re so kind,” said the moderator of the event.

Then he asked how it was so effective.

‘When you’re born in South Carolina, you learn to kick with a smile, right?’ She answered.
