Haley Jones’ hilarious reaction after realizing she had accidentally ignored call from her new coach
“Oh My God… That’s The Worst First Impression!”: Haley Jones’ Hilarious Reaction After Realizing She’d Inadvertently Ignored A Call From Her New Coach After Being Selected By The Atlanta Dream In The WNBA Draft
Newest Atlanta Dream player Haley Jones got off to a slow start with her coach Tanisha Wright after missing a call after the WNBA Draft.
A standout at Stanford, Jones was taken by Atlanta with the No. 6 overall pick in Monday’s New York City Draft.
Jones said her phone exploded – and her suspicion was correct, and Wright confirmed this in a tweet.
‘Hey girl!! I’m just trying to reach you to congratulate you on coming to the A! #pickupyourphone @haleyjoness19,” she tweeted.
Jones was made aware of the tweet — and missed call — by a reporter at her post-Atlanta pick press conference.

“Oh my God… coach, if you’re listening or going to see this interview, I literally got a call [to the stage], didn’t even think to grab my phone. I hugged my mom and dad and my brother, so when I get to my phone, I call her right back,” Jones told reporters.
That’s like the worst first impression you can have, missing a call from your new boss. So as soon as I get to my phone it doesn’t matter how many missed calls I have, missed texts, [I’m] call her right away.
“I hope she knows how excited I am to go to the A. Make an impact, go to training camp, just get ready to work. I’ll tell her all that in detail as soon as we’re on the phone.”
Within the hour, Jones had called back to find voicemail on the other end, as had Wright.
‘COACH! I left my phone at the design table!!!! I called you back! #phonetag,” Jones tweeted.
Jones was a standout for the Stanford basketball team and was named Pac-12 Fellow Player of the Year
