Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers leaves fans in tears with an emotional health update after his cancer diagnosis
Dave Myers left viewers in tears as he shared an emotional health update during The Hairy Bikers' Christmas Special.
The chef, 66, gave an update on his recent diagnosis as he shared the reason why he hasn't publicly shared what type of cancer he has been diagnosed with.
While much of The Hairy Bikers' Christmas Special focused on the couple's love of food, Dave also shared insight into his recent battle with cancer.
He said, 'I didn't want to eat. I would fall over quite a bit. During the second chemo treatment my hair really came out radically.
'Your hair, eyelashes, everything works fine. I've never talked about what type of cancer I have because I feel like that's my business.

'That's not what I want. I felt so guilty because of how it affected my wife Lil.”
Later in the special, Dave shared an update on his health by revealing that he might be getting back on his bike for another road trip with his friend Si King.
He said: 'My legs are going, the grin, I feel like a hysterical teenager again. I'm going to call Kingy. It means we can go out together again.'
Dave's emotional update left many viewers in tears, with some praising the presenter for speaking so candidly about his battle with cancer.
One posted: 'Dave Myers – back on the bike. What a moment,” while a second added: “Watching #thehairybikers Coming Home For Christmas. An ode to food, friendship and overcoming cancer. While cooking a Christmas meal for all the people who helped Dave Myers in his cancer journey.'
'The food was his love for those people. Definitely worth checking out on iPlayer,” wrote a third.
One viewer said: 'I enjoyed The Hairy Bikers and their Christmas show. There is no doubt that Dave Myers has had a very difficult time.
'A small part of me wonders if an ordinary mortal had had cancer at the same time, would he have received the same treatment from the NHS?'

“Watching @HairyBikers now and seeing the great Dave Myers looking pretty much the same but better than me and going through a similar journey is very uplifting but also heartbreaking. I understand his pain, LITERALLY. I wish I could eat like him, and I really need to… soon!' one fan added.
“Crying here – a bit of shame, tbh. I like watching the Hairy Bikers, but I never really liked Dave Myers. Are you looking at his courage now? Incredible guy,” another shared.
One also posted: 'Just incredible. How on earth he kept it up, I have no idea. I wouldn't have done that,” one user goes on to say: “Great to see Dave Myers back on our screens.”
“I grew up with The Hairy Bikers, so it's emotional to see Dave Myers' recent battle with cancer, but I'm enjoying them hanging out again, being themselves and cooking together again!” one fan added.
Dave previously praised his co-star Si King for helping him through his battle with cancer, for which he continues to receive treatment.
He confessed that he saw their festive special as a way to show his gratitude, as he explained, “This time we shared that food with people who I also owe my life to.” There are the nurses, the counselors, the physiotherapists who taught me to walk again.'
His co-star and best friend added movingly: “It was the return for Dave and for me to some sense of normalcy and that was very valuable when things weren't like that for Dave, and that's true by default not for me. ..
'It was wonderful to see Dave driving and saying, 'Are you sure we're not turning left here?'
Dave revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer in May 2022 and is currently still undergoing treatment for the disease.
Last month he revealed he was 'stable' and back at work, adding that he was 'really enjoying life at the moment', saying: 'I'm doing well. I'm still being treated, but everything seems stable…
'I've been cycling with my best friend again, filming, doing the books and back to work. So actually it's all pretty good. I'm really enjoying life at the moment.'
Speaking about their Christmas special, Dave said: 'The importance of this Christmas special has been enormous to me. I really wanted to show our gratitude, just like Si did. We have opened up enough without sharing too much…
'The program is very honest and from the heart…'
'The whole thing worked from start to finish. It was great to get back on the bike together, we set off and Si led so I didn't have to think about where I was going…
'That feeling of doing again what we have been doing for thirty years was magical. Si has shoulders like a bison and it was a joy to follow that silhouette through the landscape. It was like getting my wings back.”
Dave, who has been married to Liliana Orzac since 2011, spoke about the importance of support from loved ones, saying: 'It's fantastic to know that Si has been there…
'A lot of the credit also goes to my wife, she has been through it all with me from the beginning. It is absolutely necessary and I feel very sad for the people who have to go through this alone.”
Speaking about eating during treatment, Dave explained: 'Nutrition is vital when recovering from cancer, one is appetite and the other is getting the calories…
'Sometimes I have to give myself a good talk, because when you feel rough you don't feel like eating, but you have to do it.
'There are times when you start eating again, when you look forward to it again. It is important to also find things you like during that journey. They are the things of life.
'It doesn't matter whether you are a prince or a pauper, everyone has something he or she likes to eat. Pancit noodles now have legendary status for me.'
